A Doughy Smoothie
It was a truly gorgeous weekend.
Things accomplished:
- Making and eating an entire flourless chocolate cake
- Getting a 90 minute massage on Friday night–my first!
- Soaking up a ton of sun.
- Taking Roma to the groomers–goodbye dog hair! [if only it stopped the shedding]
- Watching Inter beat Cesena.
- Watching the Timbers beat RSL.
- Meeting with my fam for lunch since yesterday was my mom’s birthday–Happy birthday, Mom!
- Making another awesome pasta dish last night.
- Watching Dogs Decoded.
- Drinking Pacificos and reading in the above mentioned sun.
I could go on. I tried not to groan when I woke up to rain this morning–such is life. I’m still riding on the high from my massage on Friday night. Yes, a high. I know I should be relaxed, and I was, but I couldn’t help but be psyched at how I felt after having my very, very tight muscles be more open then they probably have ever been. Even my LMT said she hadn’t seen anyone so tight in a long time. Yes, getting a massage is totally lazy-man’s yoga. She convinced me [with the help of a couple free passes] to check out some Yin Yoga classes. She also suggested I really halt the aggressive working out that I do. It’s only making it worse. Yes, I stretch, but it’s only stopping any additional tension. It’s not helping to break what I already have. I could use the balance and the focus. If yesterday’s lazy day was any indication, I have a very hard time sitting around and relaxing. So we’ll see how it goes.
This is called a doughy smoothie [in a bowl], which is pretty much what I felt like Friday night. The premise is simple, and should only be attempted by those who really like textures like oatmeal and chia seed pudding, etc [example, my sister would hate this]. You take all of the ingredients for overnight oats and put them in your Magic Bullet [or blender] the night before. Leave it in your fridge. Then in the morning, blend it. It might need a touch more liquid to get it going, but the result is soft and magical. Then you can top it how you please–like with peanut butter and chocolate chips. The inspiration comes from Kath Eats Real Food. If you haven’t checked her stuff out, you should. It’s good stuff.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup rolled oats
- 1/2 cup milk of choice [soy!]
- 1 tablespoon chia seeds
- 1/2 banana
- Cinnamon to taste
- Splash of vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon agave
Preparation
- Put it all in your blender.
- Put it in the fridge.
- Leave it overnight.
- Try blending it in the morning. If it doesn’t work, add a little bit of water or milk.
- Pour into a bowl.
- Top with yummy things.
- Gorge.
Yummmm that looks good, and aside from the banana, I can actually eat that! 🙂
I think you can sub in the yogurt you can actually eat, or applesauce [that’s okay, isn’t it?], for the banana and get the same result.
