What I Ate Wednesday – Vacation Edition

Commence vacation burnout. I think I’m the only one who didn’t come home sick and/or with a sinus thing. I’d like to thank day after day of poor life choices dietary decisions, little amounts of sleep, crowded/sweaty venues, and fun temperature swings of almost 30 degrees for getting them sick. I have no idea how I survived. Immune system of steel? It was so much fun, and wildly entertaining. Gainesville, FL is a strange place. Of the 15-ish bands we wanted to see this weekend, we saw 14. That’s huge. I don’t know that the schedule could ever be topped, so I anticipate this being my first and last Fest.

Shall we recap the trip by way of the food I ate? It was insanity.

  • Chicken salad sandwich with potato salad at Real Food Company at the Houston airport.
  • Black bean burger with goat cheese, roasted red peppers, sautéed mushrooms, and arugula on a pretzel bun + fries at The Top.
  • Oatmeal with honey, walnuts, and peanut butter and half a bagel at the Marriott.
  • 2 PowerBar Harvest Protein bars from a gas station while waiting in line at registration.

  • 6″ sub sandwich with ham, cappicola, and provolone at Mars Pub & Laser Tag.
  • Pesto chicken melt and fries from The Top.
  • Stuffed peanut butter and banana waffle topped with fresh berries + scrambled eggs + bacon at the 43rd Street Deli and Breakfast House.
  • 1/2 small combination pizza from Big Lou’s Pizza.

  • Media Noche sandwich [pork, ham, mayo, must, pickles, & swiss cheese on the most delicious sweet bread] from Flacos.
  • Egg salad sandwich with macaroni salad from Harvest Thyme.
  • Small banana sorbet to from The Gelato Company.
  • Pollo Picante sandwich [chicken breast, spicy mayo, tomatoes, jalapenos, swiss cheese and mixed greens] from Flacos.

Whoa. I knew I ate a lot (as evidenced by my stomach teetering on the verge of spontaneous combustion at any moment), but seeing it all in one place is insanity. That doesn’t even include the adult beverages consumed in the midst of this food frenzy.

All is back to normal, though. I can’t keep up that train wreck of a diet. I have been craving vegetables. No joke.

  • Oh this will be recreated at some point. Sadly the actual waffle at the restaurant was kind of a bummer. That’s what I get for ordering waffle when everyone else ordered eggs/bacon/hash/etc. It had clearly been sitting around awhile.

  • Well that all sounds pretty darn good! And way to enjoy the fest! I’ve always wanted to go to a huge music festival, but I feel like I’m bordering on too old…or too hermit-who-likes-her-own-bed. And just so you know, today is the last day of drunken chili leftovers, and I am heartbroken. Soooo good, definitely the best chili I’ve made in ages, so thanks for the recipe!
